BIOGRAPHY

Born in 1973 in Bergamo, Stefano Rossi's musical endeavours began at the Milan Conservatory "Giuseppe Verdi," where he received a diploma in Modern Violin (1994). In 1998, he pursued his passion for baroque music, studying with the esteemed Lucy van Dael at the "Sweelinck Conservatorium" in Amsterdam, graduating "cum laude." During his studies, he also had the privilege of studying with well-known musicians, such as Alfredo Bernardini, Bob van Asperen, and Stanley Hoogland.

Rossi has performed with distinguished ensembles such as Musica ad Rhenum, Zefiro, Cappella della Pietà dei Turchini, Al Ayre Español, and the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. A significant chapter of his career was his decade-long tenure with Accademia Bizantina, where he served as the Principal Second Violin and occasionally as Concertmaster.

Today, Stefano Rossi is the Concertmaster of Les Ambassadeurs – La Grande Écurie, conducted by Alexis Kossenko, and Concerto d'Amsterdam. He regularly collaborates with Il Pomo d'Oro, B'Rock, Holland Baroque, Ensemble Scirocco, La Fonte Musica, Bremer Barockochestra, and Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla. These collaborations have given him the opportunity to collaborate with renowned musicians like Alexis Kossenko, Riccardo Minasi, Milos Valent, Hidemi Suzuki, Luciana Mancini, Michael Chance, Francesco Corti, Ottavio Dantone, Maxim Emelyanychev, Giovanni Sollima, Stefano Montanari, and Sergio Azzolini.

Rossi has an extensive recording portfolio with labels such as Naive, Stradivarius, Decca, Erato, Ambroisie, Virgin Classics, Archive, and Bongiovanni, as well as multiple major European radio stations. He plays a 1694 violin made by Hendrick Jacobs in Amsterdam, using bows crafted by Antonino Airenti in Genoa.
